Partners in Disease Prevention
We consider ourselves to be your partner in defending your cat against disease and parasites. At your cat’s wellness exam, we will discuss your cat’s age requirements and home environment in-depth to determine the most appropriate treatments and vaccines. By tailoring vaccinations and parasite control methods to your cat’s unique needs, we give your cat the most efficient defense against health complications. Special consideration is usually given to new kittens and senior cats but we base all of our recommendations on guidelines outlined by the American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP).
Rabies shots can be administered annually or every three years. State law requires inoculation against rabies for all domestic animals. We will work with you to determine what vaccination schedule works best for your cat.
Commonly referred to as the “FVRCP” vaccine, this important inoculation will protect your cat from three separate and highly contagious viruses. All cats should start this series at a young age and continue receiving this vaccine every three years.
The feline leukemia virus is passed between cats through the exchange of body fluids such as bites, breeding, and grooming. The vaccination against feline leukemia is recommended for cats that have a high potential for contact with other cats or may frequent locations where other cats have been.
It is important to protect your cat from parasites and the diseases they can transmit. Mosquitoes, fleas, and ticks carry multiple dangers for your cat and prevention is critical to your cat’s health. The products needed to defend your house and your cat from parasites are available for purchase at the clinic. Fleas are a particularly difficult part of cat ownership and we’ve prepared a comprehensive article to teach you about this dreaded houseguest.
